VIDEO: Man Lives For 30 Years Alaskan Log Cabin Built With His Own Hands... Tells His Story

For many people log cabin living reminds them of the wilderness, the forest, the mountains and maybe a lake, quite often people vacation in these beautiful locations in log cabins or log cottages, as they fit so perfectly in natural environments. "This Man Lived Alone For Nearly 30 Years In The Mountains of Alaska in a Log Cabin Which He Built With His Own Hands," reminds us of the pioneers who traveled across the country, carving out lives for themselves in remote locations.

Richard Proenneke was an amateur naturalist who lived alone for almost 30 years in the mountains of Alaska in a small log cabin that he built with his own hands near the shore of Twin Lakes, Alaska. Proenneke hunted, fished, raised and gathered his own food. Occasionally supplies would be flown in. He kept journals and film documenting his activities. He also recoded valuable meteorological and natural data. The journals he wrote were later used to write books and used to produce documentaries on his life in the remote wilderness of Alaska. Proenneke never got sick, not even with a cold.

Many people still do build their own log cabins, most will use power tools, and some will opt for designing and building their log cabins without any power tools, in the most environmentally, sustainable way possible, with as little effect on the environment as possible. Living off grid in a log cabin in the remote Alaskan wilderness is not for everyone, but more and more people are discovering the advantages of off grid living and all the advantages, such as affordability, less reliance on fossil fuels and not being a part of the larger system, which for many people is freeing.
